We often get asked to offer style advice on what tie knot to use for each of our shirts. So here are our top tips!
With a pin collar shirt, it really depends on the thickness of your tie but generally speaking you should opt for a slim/semi-slim tie and knot. This is because if you go for a too large knot, it will deform the collar shape slightly and will not get the desired look. We would recommend 'THE SIMPLE' knot for this shirt as below:
With a tab collar shirt, the same principal applies as with the pin collar shirt - so opt for 'THE SIMPLE' knot:
The penny cutaway collared shirt is very much a casual shirt, yet you can just about get away wearing a tie. My personal preference with this shirt would be the top button done up with no tie, although if you were to style with a tie you should opt for a wide knot due to the wide natural of the collar. Saying that you shouldn't opt of a large knot. So wide but not large, the half-windsor knot would be my recommendation:
Our 'Business 180' collared shirt is your classic business shirt, very versatile to wear with or without a tie. You can be flexible with your tie knot on this shirt, try 'THE SIMPLE', 'THE FOUR-IN-HAND' or even 'THE FULL WINDSOR' - however my preference would again be 'THE HALF-WINDSOR' knot:
Our 'Business 270' collared shirt has a slightly narrower collar than the classic 180 business shirt and therefore your options on a tie knot are limited. With narrower collars do not opt for larger knots such as the full-windsor, instead you should go for a narrow knot:
The extreme cutaway shirt has an extra wide cutaway collar and therefore is the only shirt in our range that I would recommend the full-windsor knot:
