Back to the catwalk: the men’s turn

2014 is awake, had a shower and coffee (skipped the shave part) and is back at work.

The first big fashion event of the New Year is currently underway with the third edition of ‘London Collections:Men’ currently being held at Victoria House and The Hospital Club.

Yesterday I was invited along as a guest of Men Style Fashion ( to view the Autumn/Winter 2014 collections for designers James Long and Nicole Farhi. From what I’ve seen so far of next year, my views on colours for the colder months are defendable for at least another year (see ‘Winter Sun’ blog of 28/12). While there were a few toes dipped into more colourful hues than charcoal - a lot more purple than I was expecting - the traditional, more staid, palette still dominated.

At the former show I had the privilege of meeting LCM ambassador and ubermodel David Gandy and after a brief conversation found out that he was wearing a Pin Collar Shirt for the very first time. It’s always exciting to meet someone in any field who is not only passionate about their industry, but is also trying to improve it. It was also refreshing to meet someone who grew up around the same part of the world and has remained as down-to-earth, in the wake of incredible success. Most importantly he’s a fan of classic pin collar shirts.

If you don’t recognise the name, then you would probably recognise him in the flesh, so to speak: he’s the acceptable face of white underwear and not much else for Dolce & Gabbana. My next job is to convince him to cover those pants with some suit trousers, then match them with, for example, a ‘Pin Collar Shirts’ shirt.

Today I’m back out and about at the collections, pressing and papping the flesh, finding a few people wearing pin collar shirts, and asking others ‘why not?’
